Our objective

The purpose of the Urban Beekeepers' Association of Slovenia is to bring together individuals working in the fields of beekeeping, apitourism, apitherapy, environmental protection, agriculture, biotechnology, culture, architecture and design, social empowerment, landscape architecture and environmental management, and related fields in Ljubljana and Slovenia; to connect all those who support activities in the aforementioned fields; to connect our members and activities with colleagues abroad; to assist in the realization of their common interests (the common interest is to contribute to the development and promotion of urban beekeeping as an activity that generates the protection and development of the urban environment and can enable the growth of quality of life); promoting and establishing urban beekeeping within the sustainable framework, raising public awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators in the cities; access to public funds for all those working in these areas; working to improve the spatial and other working conditions of (urban) beekeepers at the systemic level and working to improve their position in general. 

The Urban Beekeepers' Association of Slovenia strives to achieve the following goals:

- connecting urban beekeepers and caring for the welfare of bee colonies in urban environments, taking into account the carrying capacity of the area for this activity and sustainable coexistence with other pollinators;

- improving public awareness of urban beekeeping, its existence and operation, and the possibilities for its development in Slovenia and beyond;

- improving the age structure of beekeepers in Slovenia, i.e., rejuvenating the profession; affirmation of urban beekeeping by the public and the beekeeping community in the broadest sense (from promoting good practice in accordance with veterinary and hygiene guidelines relating to beekeeping in general, to academic or scientific research level); 

- improvement of conditions for urban beekeeping and coexistence with other wild pollinators in the urban environment of Ljubljana and other major urban centers in Slovenia and beyond its borders; 

- improving the health of Slovenian bees and ensuring the purity of the indigenous Apis mellifera carnica honeybee breed; 

- increasing the number of melifferous plants and trees and green areas in general in the urban environments; 

- improving the level of domestic self-sufficiency in honey and other bee products; promoting an eco-organic approach to beekeeping and advocating for the highest quality bee products; 

- linking urban beekeeping with other industries that strive to improve the quality of life in the cities.
